How it's judged

Every entry is scored out of 100 across four equally weighted criteria. Nothing else counts. Not your gear, not your following, and definitely not how much you donated.

Light

25% of score

Do you understand what the light is doing, and did you use it?

  • Direction and quality of the light on the panels
  • Whether highlights hold detail instead of blowing out
  • Reflections working for the shape of the car, not fighting it
  • Ambient, natural, artificial, all of it works. Using it well is the point.

Composition

25% of score

Where the car sits in the frame, and what you chose to leave out.

  • Camera height and angle relative to the car
  • Background doing a job, either backing up the subject or getting out of the way
  • Balance, negative space, and how the eye travels the frame
  • Cropping with intent rather than to rescue a shot

Craft

25% of score

The technical execution, and an edit that serves the photo instead of shouting over it.

  • Focus landing where you meant it to
  • Clean exposure with shadows and highlights under control
  • Colour that looks deliberate, not filtered
  • Retouching that stays invisible

Impact

25% of score

Whether it stops us scrolling. Hard to define, easy to spot.

  • The photo says something instead of just documenting a car
  • Mood, energy, or atmosphere you built on purpose
  • A point of view we haven't seen a hundred times
  • It still holds up on the second and third look

Shot this month

Entries have to be from the last 30 days.

Round 01 is one open category, no theme. From Round 02 each round runs to a monthly theme with separate Pro and Beginner leagues, judged against each other rather than across the whole field.

Blind judging

Donations are stripped out before scoring.

Entries reach the judging sheet with names, handles and donation amounts removed. A ten cent entry and a five hundred dollar entry look identical at that point. The donation is the price of admission, not a bid.

Ties & disputes

If two entries tie, Impact breaks it.

The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. If you want feedback on your entry after winners are announced, email and ask. Happy to give it.
